1995 S-103 Summer Meeting

- Agenda adopted
- Introduction of visitors from University of Massachusetts: Kathy Carroll, Reeser Manley, Ron Kujawshi, Bridget Ruemmde
- Minutes from last meeting approved
- Comments from Bob Christensen regarding meeting agenda

- Paul Farris, P. J. Van Blokland will not be here
- Kudos to Bob Christensen for outstanding program planning
- Everett Emino is alternate member of committe of nine. In last meeting they indicated they are looking for:
* Clear interdependence between states regarding common research protocols.
* A strong interdependence along research lines.
- Brian Maynard - Rhode Island Experiment Station is joining S103 project. (See attached letter) Moved, seconded, and approved.
- CSREES advisor - no report
- Manuscript reports (see attached list of bulletins in progress)
* Irrigation - no report
* Landscape design - David Beattie is printing at Penn State
* Container nurseries/field nurseries - ready for printing
* Overwintering - David Beattie serving as editor. Dennis Wolnick will follow up with Beattie on the status of this bulletin.
- Presentation by John Brooker regarding S103 survey (see attached notes). Brooker will send copies of the results to members. Emino will send to Experiment Station Directors to get a number for ordering. Each members needs to then contact their Director to "expedite" the process.
- Subcommittees meetings (see attached notes):
- Greenhouse Subcommittee
* Reviewed Susan's Table of Contents (see attached)
* Rhodus has a survey of facilities used in Ohio/Florida. Tim will send a copy to subcommittee members.
* Brooker also will send a copy of his greenhouse survey results to subcommitteemembers..
* There has been a revision of Greenhouse Engineering Publication - Penn State.
* Target audience for this bulletin - both new and existing greenhouses? - may need to tailor the introductory section.
* Robin has graciously offered to develop draft of section I.
* Doyle suggested a financial analysis section (section VI) be added.
* Bridget is working on section II - get with her to see what progress has been done.
* Susan/Richard will work on section IV.
- Marketing Subcomittee
* Reviewed Susan's list of retail-related marketing literature (see attached).
* Subcommittee members need to send Susan any additional references for addition to the list.
* Subcommittee will start pulling together references for all sectors (Steve will do CRIS search)
* John will send a copy of CA consumer demand publication to subcommittee members.
- National Survey
* Suggestions regarding improvements or modifications to the survey instrument should be made to Brooker a.s.a.p. (while it is fresh on your mind)
* Think of new questions that we might include next time.
* Think of potential sources of funding for next time.
* Make plans for consistent sampling procedure.
- Tim Rhodus will set up an S103 Internet Home Page on the World Wide Web and contact members when it is available. There will be a two-hour training session in Houston at our next meeting. The address will be:

- Annual progress reports of S103 activities will be requested from each member in November.
